“With our Mutoh XPJ-661UF UV-LED-printer, we can print on virtually any substrate,” says company owner Nathalie Caestecker. “Basically, size and your own creativity are the only limiting factors for this easy to use and fun machine. Other than that, almost anything is possible.”

Studio KRASS specializes in making unique and personalized gifts for communions, birthdays, weddings, or any other important life-event.

They do that by printing and laser engraving personalized messages or images on a variety of materials such as wood, leather, rubber, thick cardboard, plexiglass, and many more. When compared to other providers, Studio KRASS excel in their creativity and personal approach, in which they like to think along with the customer.

A2+ printing size

When company owner Nathalie Caestecker started Studio KRASS in 2017, she had no idea that her business would take-off so fast. “Where we first started with offering laser engraved objects, we soon realised that printing text and images on these objects was going to be the next step in creating unique products. Due to limited office space, investing in a large flatbed UV-printer was not an option for us, but when we discovered the Mutoh XPJ-661UF A2+ flatbed UV-LED-printer, we were instantly hooked. Compact, extremely user friendly and the A2+ printing size was exactly wat we were looking for.

Strong vacuum

Besides the large printing size, there were also other features that charmed Studio KRASS.

Nathalie explains: “Decorated plywood is one of our most popular items. Since plywood is not always perfectly flat, a good vacuum was a must for us to produce flawless prints. The vacuum of the Mutoh’s flatbed table is so strong, that we don’t even have to bother taping off the rest of the table. Another important plus is the maximum allowable material thickness of not less than 15 cm. That is more than adequate for the wooden souvenir boxes we make. Furthermore, a feature which makes things even easier, is the automatic height adjustment of the printing heads. All we have to do is push the print button and the machine does all the rest.”

White is the new gold

Another strong feature of the Mutoh XPJ-661UF is its capability to print white ink. “For our types of applications, white ink is indispensable,” says Nathalie.

Without this, we would not be able to do what we do. The white is also very white and opaque, what makes it very suitable to print pictures on dark surfaces, or any colored or transparent surface for that matter.

Good combo with laser engraver

Having the laser engraver besides the Mutoh XPJ-661UF is actually a very good combination, says Nathalie. “Thanks to our laser engraving machine we can make our printing molds out of plywood. We made molds for all kinds of jobs and having them makes printing of multiple items a lot faster and more precise. All we must do is take the corresponding mold, place the material in the mold an off we go. In the future, we will also invest in the rotary option, a specific tool that allows you to print on bottles or other round objects. Ideas plenty, but Rome wasn't built in a day either.”
